Pastor Brett Haskins
With his older brother out of town, Grayson has yet to figure out how to cope with his loneliness. He invests his time and energy into school and nerdy pursuits, hoping that he too will one day blow out of town. He's never been more confused about his faith, he's at odds with Bea, the pretty new girl, and he's about to have to fight harder than he knew he could for his little sister Gemma.

Having moved to Goodtown from Los Angeles, Bea is adjusting to a more rural way of life. Not helping is the inability to distinguish between what kind of rural anyone is. Despite this, she has already volunteered to DM for the DND Club and has struck up a friendship with Gemma Spelling. She has a Virgo tattoo.

Her Parents
Now a freshman in high school, Gemma is reinventing herself. She's left some of the cutesy clothes behind for Hot Topic finds and fishnets. With her mother constantly watching her every move, she's become angrier and more argumentative. No one understands her, except maybe the youth pastor at her new church. Brett gets it.

Between a day job at a cellphone store and a weekend gig as a youth pastor, Brett is a busy man. He's in school for philosophy, and keeps a consistent blog based around his values and the philosophy and theology therein. He may spend too much time on the internet. He believes Gemma is destined to be his wife. He's 20, y'all.

Best friend to Grayson and a budding activist, Saul is equal parts nerdy and country. He is both into writing and Mexican rodeo, the latter of which he regularly competes in. Saul's loved ones, blood and found, are extremely important to him. He's the "hide a body for you" kind of friend, and he's not afraid to say as much.

Grayson's Parents
Grayson's close friend and a strident atheist, Jake has an opinion on damn near everything and is not afraid to make it known. He's known for starting debates when debates need not be had, and has gotten in trouble for debates that escalated into something else. He's all about logic. That said, he loves fantasy/scifi books and settings, leaning on escapism.

Weird Clothes
Having just been allowed to come to public school by his extremely conservative parents, Viktor grew up homeschooled and isolated from most other kids. He befriended Grayson as an awkward church camp conselor, and they quickly bonded over their faith, reading preferences, and video games. Vik is in the midst of the extreme cultural shock of public school.

Being Judged
Upon her son Garrett coming out, Amanda is scrambling to rebuild her reputation. She is the driving force that brings her family to a new church further away from town. Amanda fears God for herself and her family, and she views her oldest son as being an obstacle to a righteous path. She is white-knuckling her life in an attempt to keep it together.

Being Sober
Between his wife's campaign to forget their eldest son and being left in the dust by that eldest son, Matt's struggles with alcohol have never been more pronounced. For the most part, he successfully hides the addiction. He is quiet and unassuming about it, consumed by the agony of reworking thoughts he's built upon his entire life. Is this the end? Does he want it to be? Maybe he does.
